NOW IS THE TIME…..

…TO CONSERVE WATER.    With the recent 4” rainfall, your sprinklers should not be running!  Set your system according to the weather rather than the calendar.  Adding a moisture sensor to your system will also help in giving your lawn the 1-1/2” of water per week needed to grow healthy roots and discourage disease.

…TO PULL GARLIC MUSTARD.     The tall green stems with white flowers are at their prime and need to be pulled before the seeds are scattered.  Containment is the realistic goal, so start with small patches or single plants and work towards larger stands.  Check out the very helpful video at https://vimeo.com/2855779.

…TO HAVE YOUR SEPTIC TANKS PUMPED.     Contact Jan Esch at the Village office when you’ve made an appointment with a pumper so a BHV crew member can come at the same time to fill out paperwork.  Jan can also tell you when your last pumping was according to BHV records.

…TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS.     BHV residents will be voting on a proposed charter amendment at the August 7, 2018 primary election and for four seats on the BHV Board of Trustees at the November 6, 2018 general election.  More information will be distributed soon.  The deadline for filing to run for the Board is July 24.

…TO WATCH YOUR SPEED.     Now more than ever BHV roadways are likely to be used by pedestrians, cyclists, lawn service vehicles, dog walkers and animals.  Drive safely.

OTHER GOOD THINGS

KNOX BOXES     The Ann Arbor Township Fire Department utilizes the Knox Box system in an effort to reduce property damage, and to be proactive in their approach to quickly and efficiently accessing locked residences/businesses. Property owners store entrance keys, access cards, and other valuable information in a high-security Knox-Box which is mounted near building entrances.  In case of fire or medical emergency, AATFD personnel can access the information and gain immediate entry into buildings and property without forced entry damage or delay. The Ann Arbor Township Fire Department is the only entity that has access to the “master” key necessary to open all of the Knox Boxes located in their response area.  Each Knox-Box is purchased and mounted by the property owner.  For additional information, go to https://www.knoxbox.com  To purchase a Knox Box, contact Lt. Aaron Blackford, or Fire Chief Mark Nicholai at 734-741-5900.

BURN PERMITS     Fires in BHV are governed by the Ann Arbor Township ordinance.  Other than patio fire pits/BBQ stoves, contact Ann Arbor Township Fire Department (734-741-5900) before burning anything.  Professionals doing controlled burns also need an AATFD permit.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE     The BHV crew will pick up home toxics (paint, oil, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.) left in the blue HHW recycling bins on regular trash collection days.  (If you can’t find your blue bin, contact Jan at the Village office.)  Residents can also take these items to the Washtenaw County collection center at 705 N. Zeeb Road this Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 9 AM – noon, or on the first three Saturdays of each month , April through November, 9 AM – noon.  No appointment needed.  Call 734-222-3810 for County information.

BHMC NEWS     The BHMC 2018-19 budget was approved by shareholder vote (29/2).  Work continues on the waterfront project, including cooperative arrangements with Barton Boat Club for boat storage/dock space, and on-going shoreline landscape management where wildflowers are peeking out.  Comments/questions can be directed to the BHMC President or any BHMC Director.

ZONING REMINDER     For any exterior changes or new structures a BHV zoning compliance certificate is required.  Contact Jan at the Village office who is glad to answer questions about projects and zoning ordinance provisions.

GREEN IS GREAT!       After the long winter it is wonderful to see beauty popping up all over the Village.  Enjoy the spring and thank you for taking good care of this special place we call home.
