Voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot must submit an application form, even if they have received absentee ballots in the past.  Absentee voter information, including the application form, is available on the Ann Arbor Township website (aatwp.org) or from the Township office located at 3792 Pontiac Trail, Ann Arbor 48105; phone 734-663-3418.

Four seats on the BHV Board of Trustees will be decided at the November 6, 2018  General Election.  The last day to file as a candidate for a seat is Tuesday July 24.  Petitions and other candidate information are available from Ann Arbor Township.  Three residents have begun collecting petitions signatures;  there is opportunity for more candidates.  Please file early so there is time to make any additions or changes before the July 24 deadline.

SECURITY UPDATE     Law enforcement personnel continue to investigate recent break-ins in BHV and Ann Arbor Township.  BHV staff have taken several steps to increase security:
— patrolling at random times with the BHV marked car (at least three times a day)
— driving down driveways in addition to road patrol
— checking doors of homes when owners are away
— watching for accumulating newspapers/mail, workers on site, other activity
In addition to keeping their homes secure (using alarm systems, motion lights, locking doors, etc), residents have the option to alert BHV staff when they are away.  All residents are asked to be attentive to their surroundings and help keep the community safe.
If you need help or have significant concerns, call 911 first.  BHV Superintendent Jeff Hnatow can be reached at 734-368-7896 or phone the BHV office 734-222-5209 for other numbers.

FALL PICNIC/ESCH DEDICATION     The BHV Fall Picnic will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2018.  Along with the usual grill/potluck event there will be an official dedication of Walter Esch Hall.  Invitations with all the details will be sent soon.

IN SYMPATHY     The family of Mary Esch extends their deep appreciation for the many expressions of sympathy at Mary’s passing on June 25, 2018 at age 89.  Walter and Mary Esch first came to Barton Hills in 1949 and played a significant part in shaping the character of the community.  Walter passed away on July 4, 2017 at age 91.

WATERFRONT UPDATE     Barton Hills Maintenance Corporation and Barton Boat Club have joined forces to maintain and improve the waterfront area along Barton Shore Drive.  All watercraft are now stored near the Boat Club building, and landscape improvements continue.  Residents interested in keeping a boat in the area should contact Sharon Popp (734-761-8570; sharon.popp@gmail.com).  Resident boats need a sticker, which Sharon can provide.

EMAIL/WEBSITE TRANSITION     BHV and BHMC are slowly but surely transitioning to their new websites and email addresses.  For BHV, visit www.bartonhillsvillage.org and contact the Clerk’s office at bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org.   For BHMC, visit www.thebhmc.org. and contact the BHMC Secretary at contact@thebhmc.org.

WATER CONSERVATION     During these hot summer days please help to conserve water.
–Water lawns wisely.  Frequent watering leads to shallow roots and greater susceptibility to diseases that thrive in wet soil.  Grass needs 1” per week including rainfall, so sprinklers don’t need to be running daily or after rain.
–Water plants early in the day or later in the evening.  Soaker hoses provide water directly to roots without overspray or excess foliage moisture.
–Check for leaks around the house, wash full loads of clothes and dishes, and don’t let water run unnecessarily.

STAFF VACATION     The Clerk’s Office will be closed for vacation from July 9-13.  If you have an urgent need during that time please call 734-222-5209 for contact information.
