HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION Due to the holidays, trash collection will take place on Thursday December 27 instead of Monday December 31. Regular first/third/fifth Monday collection will resume on Monday January 7, 2019.
RECYCLING REQUEST PLEASE….don’t put cardboard boxes in the green recycling bin! BHV pays to have the green bin dumped, whereas the BHV crew collects the boxes separately, bales and sells them. When boxes are put in the green bin, the crew has to haul them all out. Cardboard boxes can be left under the eaves in the doorway of the salt shed next to the green bin and the crew will take care of them.
Also, please don’t leave trash in the recycling area. If you have trash that just can’t wait until the next collection day, call Supt. Hnatow at 734-368-7896. Recyclables need to be clean and in the appropriate bins to discourage foraging animals and maintain a healthy environment. Thank you for your cooperation.
SECURITY SURVEY In light of recent security concerns, the possibility of a community informational meeting is being considered. A Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department representative would present options and resources available for homeowners. Please reply to Jan Esch (bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org or 734-222-5209) in answer to the following questions.
1) Would you be interested in attending a community informational meeting on security?
2) What specific topics or questions should be included in the presentation?

TAKE IT EASY The speed limit on all BHV roads is 25 mph. Residents are reminded to keep their speed down and be prepared for walkers, joggers, cyclists, school buses, delivery vehicles, wildlife and other surprises in the road, as well as inclement weather. The electronic speed signs (more will be installed soon) and security patrols are additional reminders that safety is everyone’s responsibility.
THE CENSUS IS COMING Plans for the 2020 Census are well underway. The U.S. Constitution mandates that a headcount of everyone living in the Unites States be taken every 10 years. An accurate count is important since Census data is used for distributing over $400 billion in federal funds to states and local governments, drawing federal, state, and local legislative boundaries, reapportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, and numerous program plans such as creating maps to speed emergency services and designing transportation routes.
The Census is hiring for a variety of temporary jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, and be a U.S. citizen. To find out more/apply, go to 2020census.gov/jobs or call 855-562-2020.
