PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING

July 18, 2023

 

The regular meeting of the BHV Planning Commission was called to order by Chair Caldwell at Walter Esch Hall at 6:08 PM.

 

ROLL CALL     Present:  Commissioners Caldwell, Hanley, Hensinger, Richards, Wallace, and Weingartner.  Absent: Commissioner MacKrell.

Others present:  Randy Perry and Dennis Capozza.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT     None.

 

MINUTES     The minutes of the April 11, 2023 meeting were approved as printed. (Weingartner/Hensinger/P unanimously) 

 

COMMUNICATIONS/ANNOUNCEMENTS     The BHMC Board of Directors will have four seats open for their upcoming election in October.

–Mr. Perry shared that a Village board subcommittee is studying MDOT’s recommendations for reconfiguring the M14/Barton Drive ramps.  The subcommittee is in communication with the Barton Hills Country Club and the University of Michigan Medical Center, (also looking to engage with local governments), to petition to MDOT to retain the M14/Barton Drive ramps, improve the interchange’s safety, and eliminate the dual roundabout as an option.  The subcommittee met with State Rep. Jennifer Conlin on July 18, 2023 and is scheduled to meet with State Senator Sue Shink on July 21, 2023.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Tree Regulation

Motion:  Adopt the proposed Tree Protection and Removal Ordinance as amended.  (Richards/Hensinger/P unanimously)

Motion:  Approve to have the proposed Ordinance be presented at the August 14, 2023 meeting of the BHV Board of Trustees for their consideration.

(Hanley/Caldwell/P unanimously)

 

Steep Slopes   Mr. Hensinger will pursue an agreement with the Ann Arbor Township to enforce their steep slope protection ordinance in Barton Hills Village instead of the Village constructing its own ordinance.

 

Zoning Ordinance   Tabled for next meeting.

 

New Business     The next meeting of the Planning Commission was set for Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
