TRUSTEES ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO CONSERVE WATER

To promote long-term sustainability of our groundwater supply, reduce operational strain on our municipal system, and ensure reliable water availability for all users at all times, the Board of Trustees adopted a new Outdoor Watering Policy. The Policy, voluntary for all residents, was adopted by the Trustees on July 14th as follows:

1. Outdoor watering is discouraged between 6-10am as this is our community’s peak water usage window.

2. Property owners with odd-numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) are encouraged to do outdoor watering only on odd-number dates. Likewise, those with even-numbered addresses (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) are encouraged to do outdoor watering only on even-numbered dates.

We look forward to seeing how this voluntary program unfolds, and will keep residents updated. If you have any questions, please contact Village staff.

VILLAGE STAFF WORKING HARD TO REPAIR MUNICIPAL WATER LEAKS

Residents may have noticed quite a bit of ongoing water-related repair work within our Village. Our hard-working staff has been going from one end of Barton Hills to the other, methodically testing – one-by-one – our 61 fire hydrants, 61 companion valves, 65 gate valves, and 144 curb stops to ensure each functions as it should. Whenever a leak is found, of which there have been numerous, the team repairs it. If a repair is impossible, then the dysfunctional hydrant, valve, or curb stop is replaced. This work is pivotal to our Village’s ongoing ability to reliably deliver safe drinking water on-demand, as well as meet fire flow demands.

We thank all residents for their patience and understanding during this testing period. Because so many of our hydrants, valves, and curb stops are adjacent to, or under, the road, please be sure to drive less than 25 MPH (or less than 15 MPH on Underdown) anytime you see a sign indicating workers are in the vicinity.

Want to learn more about BHV’s municipal water system? We have a wonderful, up-to-date report, presented to the Trustees in May, that shares a wealth of information, as well as identifying those components of our water distribution system that are both important and urgent to address. Contact Theresa McDevitt at Village Hall to receive your copy.

BHMC ASSESSMENTS  Annual shareholder assessment invoices were mailed this week. If you do not receive your invoice in the next several days, please email the BHMC Secretary at admin@bartonhillsmc.org.

Payments are due by September 15, 2025. Payments can be mailed to 199 Barton Shore Drive, dropped off during business hours, or left in the secure drop box by the front door.

WATER BILLS Quarter 2 water invoices have been mailed and are due by August 7, 2025.
FALL PICNIC The Annual BHV Fall Picnic is returning Sunday, September 14, 2025!

Plan to join your neighbors on the Village Green from 5-8 PM. The food truck and live music will be returning again this year!

SAVE THE DATE Our annual BHV Halloween Trick or Treating (Pizza Party & Trolley) will be on Thursday October 30, 2025 from 6-8 PM. Watch out for more information to come!
TRASH COLLECTION Please ensure your trash is accessible to Village staff by 7:30 AM on trash collection days. This helps us ensure that we can collect trash in a timely manner. Staff will make one attempt to collect your household waste. Please understand our truck is used for trash and recycling. The truck must be cleaned out after collection for the alternating tasks.
