COMMUNITY MEETING ON SECURITY

Thursday, April 11, 2019    6:00 PM

Walter Esch Hall, 199 Barton Shore Drive

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department officers familiar with our community will be presenting information on a number of security issues, as well as answering questions from the audience.  Topics will include recent security incidents, cameras/technology, safety strategies for homeowners, and Neighborhood Watch information.

NO MORE SNOW (We hope)     Now that the roads are dry it is especially important to watch your speedometer and stay within the 25 mph speed limit.  Pedestrians, cyclists, lawn care trucks, school buses, pets walking their owners and wildlife are all the more likely to be on the road as you round the corner or top the hill (not to mention the potholes which will be fixed as soon as patching material is available).  Make it a safe trip for everyone!

WOOD AVAILABLE      BHV still has a significant amount of wood left from DTE tree trimming.  If you are interested in the wood, contact Supt. Hnatow at 734-368-7896 or the Clerk’s office.  Residents are encouraged to check trees on their property and have hazardous trees trimmed/removed to reduce the dangers of injury, fire and property damage.

BARTON HILLS COUNTRY CLUB PROJECT     Barton Hills Country Club is updating the swimming pool complex this year.  The project has been approved by BHV and BHMC, but since part of the complex is in Ann Arbor Township, BHCC must also meet their requirements. This includes obtaining a conditional use permit, which requires a significant sign to be posted.  BHCC anticipates that the approval process will move along smoothly, and that construction will not be a major problem during the regular pool season.  The improvements will provide a more pleasant pool complex area and will greatly reduce the need for golf cart trips on the road between the pool and the clubhouse at the top of the hill.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!     The Barton Hills Village Hall just passed its 10th birthday, having been dedicated on January 12, 2009.  Officially renamed Walter Esch Hall last fall, the building has held up very well, providing much needed records storage, office and meeting space.  Thanks to past BHV President Jim Wilkes for the photo above, taken on December 20, 2010.

BHMC BUDGET VOTE    BHMC ballots for the current year budget vote may be returned to Asst. Secretary Jan Esch at the Village Hall until 5 PM on Thursday March 28, 2019.  Thanks for voting!

SPRING CLEAN UP
–BHV staff will pick up brush and sticks gathered by homeowners for disposal.  Lawn service providers are expected to haul away their clean-up debris.
–Separate out sticks/brush that can be chipped from leaves and other debris.  Place piles near the driveway or road where the staff can see and collect them as their work schedule allows.

SEPTIC PUMPING     Contact Jan Esch at the Clerk’s Office when you’ve made an appointment with a pumper so a BHV crew member can come at the same time to fill out paperwork.  Jan can also tell you when your last pumping was according to BHV records. Septic pumping is required at least every four years per BHV ordinance.

COMMUNITY PARAMEDICS     In addition to regular ambulances, Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA) now has two Community Paramedic vehicles.  These are staffed by an experienced paramedic with additional training and equipment, with the goal of helping patients stay at home instead of going to the emergency room when it’s not required.  This pilot program has been well received, as patients can connect with their physicians via video teleconferencing, and common or frequently occurring medical problems may be addressed without a trip to the hospital.  At least one BHV resident has made use of the service which they found very useful.  For more information contact HVA at 734-477-6783.

ECOLOGICAL BURN SEASON     Ann Arbor City may be conducting controlled ecological burns in Barton Nature area on weekdays between 11 AM and 7 PM through May 24, 2019.  Locations are listed at a2gov.org/NAPBurn, or call 734-794-6627.

ADDITIONAL COMMITTEE REPORTS     Following are a report from Cheryl MacKrell, previous chair of the BHV Long Range Planning Committee, who led the committee for most of 2018,  and the report of the BHV Special Sale of Roads Committee which was presented at the BHV Annual Meeting on March 11, 2019. The rest of the Annual Committee reports were distributed with the February 2019 Barton Bulletin and are available from the Clerk’s Office. Contact clerk’s office for all 2019 annual reports.  These will be posted on this website in the near future.
