FALL PICNIC THANKS 77 adults, 40 children and 4 dogs enjoyed a beautiful day and lots of fun at the Fall Picnic on September 19, 2021. Highlights included games on the Village Green, bubbles, face painting, music, a visit by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department deputies, delicious food, and lots of great conversation. Many thanks to the hard-working Community Activities Committee and the BHV staff for making this event so memorable!
WATER METER READING BHV staff will be coming to your house (when you’re home) to read your water meter for the annual billing. If you would prefer not to have them come inside due to COVID, you can take a photo of the dial numbers on your meter and email it to bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org. Be sure to put your name/address in the email, and send the email by October 15 to avoid a house visit. Questions? Call the BHV office at 734-222-5209.
NEW ORDINANCE At their September 13, 2021 meeting the BHV Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance No. 58 that provides safety limits for trees hanging over the roads.
IN SYMPATHY Deepest sympathies to the family of Evelyn Pickard, a long-time resident who passed away recently.
OAK WILT UPDATE Thanks to the several people who emailed asking if what they were seeing in the trees was oak wilt. Most of the observed symptoms (brown leaves, often falling in clumps) are the result of the cicada hatch earlier this year, or other normal stress factors, and no oak wilt has been found.
Be cautious and wait until November to trim or cut oak trees. If the tree is damaged, immediately cover the area with tree-wound paint or latex-based paint.
Leaves that are a combination of damaged brown and healthy green will start in the very tops of the trees if oak wilt is the cause. Keep looking up, and hopefully only the multicolored beauty of the changing fall leaves will be seen.
