DEDICATION OF THE JAN AND DAVE ESCH 40 ACRE NATURE PRESERVE
Celebrate the Esch legacy and honor Jan and Dave Esch at the dedication of the Jan and Dave Esch 40-acre Nature Preserve, formerly known as the North 40. The dedication will be on Saturday October 12, 2024 from 2-3 pm. These 40 acres, north of North Barton Drive and west of Whitmore Lake Rd., were rented to farmers until recently when the BHMC reached out to US Fish and Wildlife and Ducks Unlimited to convert the formerly farmed area into a nature preserve. Wildflowers were planted along with the creation of 3 ponds. A walking pathway is mowed for easy access.
PET WASTE Please be courteous to your neighbors by picking up after your pet. Take along a baggie with you to pick up waste with and then dispose of it properly. By taking a few simple steps to clean up after your pet, you can contribute to the beautification of our community.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE SUBCOMMITTEE
Bryce Frohlich, Ann Arbor Community Resilience Specialist, provided an overview at a September 24th BHV Climate Resilience sponsored Village meeting. He shared that Ann Arbor is experiencing stronger storms, increased heat, and extreme precipitation, and defined resilience as a response to these potentially negative consequences of climate change. Resilience builds on preparation for climate related damage, and on strategies to provide needed post-disaster support. He mentioned two existing Ann Arbor “Resilience Hubs” that help residents in need. A community extension program is available to train ‘Community Ambassadors’ who are interested in promoting sustainability at a local level. Strategies to reach Ann Arbor’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 include energy assessments to decarbonize homes, distribution of 1000 emergency kits by 2030, and workshops to provide instruction, and facilitate discussion on emergency preparedness. Randy Perry noted that the relevant issues for BHV are potential damage from wind, power outages, and tree damage.
