Michael Richards, Gregory Saldana and Matt Turner.

NO PFAS IN BHV WATER     In light of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS ) found recently in surface water, including Barton Pond, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has been conducting tests throughout the state.  Both BHV wells were recently tested by MDEQ and the good news is there was no detection of any of the substances in the groundwater from which BHV draws community drinking water.  A “Do not eat the fish” advisory has been issued for most of the Huron River, including Barton Pond.  More PFAS information is available from the Huron River Watershed Council at www.hrwc.org.

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSINGS     Foster Bridge and East Delhi Bridge will be closed on Thursday September 13, 2018 from 8 AM – 4 PM for an inspection.  If you use Country Club Road across Foster Bridge, please choose an alternate route (that does not involve East Delhi Bridge) on that day.

SECURITY UPDATE     The BHV staff continues to patrol frequently and randomly to help ensure the safety and security of the community.  Please note that homes under construction are private property and trespassing is not allowed at any time.  The BHV staff will call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department whenever a person is seen or suspected to be trespassing on private property.  Thank you for supporting this effort by taking normal precautions such as locking homes and vehicles, making use of alarm systems/motion sensors and being aware of surroundings.  If you need help or have significant concerns, call 911 first.  BHV Superintendent Jeff Hnatow can be reached at 734-368-7896 or phone the BHV office 734-222-5209 for other contact numbers.

TAX PAYMENTS     BHV property tax bills are due by Friday, September 14, after which penalty and interest charges will be added.  Since the BHV offices are closed on Fridays, Assistant Treasurer Priya King will be in her office at Walter Esch Hall on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM to receive payments.  Regular office hours for the Clerk and Treasurer’s offices are Monday-Thursday 8:30-11:30 AM.  Payments may also be mailed to Barton Hills Village, 199 Barton Shore Drive, Ann Arbor MI 48105.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY     Be on the lookout for school buses on the winding curves.  Flashing yellow overhead lights mean prepare to stop, flashing red lights mean stop and flashing hazard warning lights mean proceed with caution.  Stop at least 20 feet from the bus and watch for children walking or waiting by the side of the road for the bus.

SEPTIC TANK PUMPING     Septic tank pumping is required per BHV Code Chapter 8 every four years, or more frequently if needed.  Contact Jan Esch at the Clerk’s Office when pumping appointments are set so a BHV staff member can come at the same time to fill out necessary paperwork.  Thanks for helping to protect environmental health and water resources.

YARD CLEAN UP     Please note the following:
–If you rake your own leaves, you can pile them near (but not in) the road or driveway for BHV collection with their vacuum truck.  Don’t bag the leaves.
–Lawn services/hired providers must haul leaves away as part of their service.
–Mulching leaves during mowing adds nutrients to the soil.
–Leaf pick up will not be on trash pick up days since the same truck is used for both.
–Sort out sticks, rocks and debris that will clog/damage the leaf vacuum.  These can be put in piles for separate pick up.
