FOUND!      A ring of keys was found in the scrap metal can by the salt shed wall, directly across from the green recycle bin.  If they’re yours and you’d like to claim them, contact the office.

RECYCLING
Not everything that is unwanted goes in the new BHV trash truck!  The BHV recycling program helps to keep reusable materials out of the landfill, but it only works if we follow some simple rules.

First rule of recycling:  materials must be CLEAN, with no food, liquid or debris in them

Barton Hills Village contracts with Recycle Ann Arbor to provide a large green recycling bin in the maintenance yard (199 Barton Shore at the end of the buildings).  The bin has two compartments:

MIXED CONTAINERS—such as metal cans and glass jars/bottles, small metal scrap, aluminum foil, #1, #4, #5, #6 & #7 plastics, small #2 plastics

Large #2 plastics (milk and water jugs, laundry detergent bottles) do not go in the green bin.  Put them in the wire enclosures next to the bin.

MIXED PAPER—such as newspapers, circulars, magazines, office paper, boxboard, catalogs, paperback and telephone books.

Corrugated cardboard does not go in the green bin.  Leave it under the eaves or inside the door of the wooden salt shed building next to the bin.

Some items can be left at your home next to your regular trash for pick up on normal trash days.  Trash is collected on the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

Boxes don’t need to be flattened but do need to be empty of packing materials

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Use the blue HHW bin provided by BHV, or another container to catch any spills, to put out leftover fertilizer, paint cans, automotive products, aerosol containers and anything else that shouldn’t go to the landfill.  Check the BHV website under the Services tab for a list of acceptable HHW items.

Please let us pick up the regular trash.  Don’t leave household trash in the recycling area.

The small trash can near the green bin is for plastic grocery bags which do not go in the green bin because they plug up the sorting machine.  These bags can also be recycled at local grocery stores.
