FALL PICNIC!     The annual BHV Fall Picnic is returning on Sunday, September 19, 2021.  The theme is “Meet and Reconnect” so plan to join your neighbors on the Village Green from 4-8 PM.  Invitations with the details will be sent via the Evite online site.  Please indicate your RSVP through the site so we know how many burgers/dogs/brats to get.  (Residents who receive the Barton Bulletin in paper format will receive paper invitations.)  Come join the fun!

BHMC ELECTION     Five seats on the BHMC Board of Directors will be decided at the October 5, 2021 Election.   Any shareholder may become a candidate for the 4-year term seats by submitting a written notice of candidacy with an optional statement of interest of no more than 500 words.  Candidate submissions must be received by BHMC Asst. Secretary Jan Esch (contact@thebhmc.org; 199 Barton Shore Dr.) no later than 10 AM on Monday September 20, 2021.

TRASH/RECYCLE     Due to the Labor Day holiday, trash will be collected on Tuesday September 7, rather than Monday September 6.  Monday, August 30 and Monday, September 20 are regular collection days.

Please note that trash is not recyclable!  Recently, the crew has been fishing items out of the green recycling bin — including foam take-out containers with food in them, half-full jars of peanut butter, and kitchen trash bags with food scraps.  Recyclable containers must be empty and clean!  It is better to throw containers in the regular trash at home than contaminate the entire recycle bin with food/beverage remains.

SECURITY UPDATE      Lieutenant Katrina Robinson from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department attended the August 9, 2021 Board of Trustees meeting to answer questions and provide valuable information about security in Barton Hills Village.  Key points to think about in/around your residence:

  • Install and use a home security system (alarms, cameras, notifications, etc.)
  • Lock doors and windows on houses and accessory buildings
  • Lock vehicles parked in driveways and garages
  • Use motion sensor lighting and/or varied timer lighting outdoors

When you’re away:

  • Notify the BHV staff when you will be traveling;
  • Arrange for mail, newspapers and packages to be picked up promptly
  • Arrange for someone to check on the house often
  • Don’t “advertise” on social media that you will be absent/on vacation for an extended period of time
  • Use timed interior lighting and outdoor lighting at night.

Everbridge.com is a reliable source of news/safety alerts for Washtenaw County and is a free service. SEPTIC PUMPING REMINDER
    Please remember to contact Traci or Jan at the Village Hall when you schedule pumping of your septic system.  A member of the maintenance crew will meet with the pumping service to fill out paperwork on-site.  Septic maintenance at least every 4 years is required by BHV Code.
