UPDATED BHV RESIDENT DIRECTORY     Attached to this Bulletin is the newly updated BHV Resident Directory.  The Directory is distributed to BHV residents only, as an aid to help neighbors find each other.  The BHV staff does not give out any information and residents are asked to be respectful of others’ contact information as well.

The Directory has a new format that may take a little getting used to.  There are three sections: alphabetical list by name, quick list by address, and detailed list also by address.  It is much easier to update information in this format and hopefully won’t be too confusing.

Please take a moment to check your listing, and contact the Clerk’s Office if anything needs changing.

The small, quarter-page size paper copy Directory has become half-page size.  To request a paper copy in addition to the electronic version, contact the Clerk’s Office.  ( bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org;  734-222-5209)

COVID UPDATE

–The BHV Board of Trustees and the BHV Planning Commission will continue to practice social distancing by meeting via video/conference call.  Connection information for the public to attend the meetings will be made available several days prior to each meeting date.  Recordings of the meetings will no longer be done in video/audio format, but only in audio format on cassette tape, and only kept until the minutes of the meeting are approved.

–The offices at Walter Esch Hall are now open Monday-Thursday 8:30-11:30 AM.  Masks are required and the staff may limit the number of people allowed in the lobby at one time.

—The BHV staff continues to follow social distancing and sanitation practices.  Please join them in observing distancing, and wearing masks when others are around, especially in the recycling and Village Green areas.

FALL RECREATION EVENTS

–The BHV Fall Picnic has been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 risks.

–The Halloween Trolley ride is on hold until the Ann Arbor Public Schools determine their course of action for the fall.

— The BHV Recreation Committee welcomes residents’ thoughts and ideas about Halloween or other community activities that would be appropriate to the current public health situation. Contact Committee Chair Linda Benson via bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org.

COAL TAR SEALANT BAN      Use of driveway sealants that contain higher amounts of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) is prohibited in Ann Arbor Township, which includes BHV.  Scientific studies have demonstrated a relationship between the use of these products and certain health and environmental concerns, including increased cancer risk and impaired water quality.  Studies also have found that 50-75% of all PAHs found in sediments in the Great Lakes region come from coal tar sealcoat.
There are several alternatives with significantly lower or no PAH content, including asphalt-based seal coat which is readily available at similar cost.  Asphalt-based sealers and crack fillers carry the label: C.A.S. 8052-42-4.  The product label also should state Asbestos Free.
Commercial operators contracted by a homeowner should confirm their compliance with the annual registration process required by Ann Arbor Township.  Materials used for BHV road paving are asphalt-based and do not contain PAHs.

UNCLAIMED BOATS     Most of the watercraft listed in the recent notice as being stored at the waterfront area without required identification stickers have been taken care of.  Three remain orphaned:  red Winona Heron canoe, green Niffy kayak, and orange 2-seat Salish kayak.  To inquire about the orphans, contact the Clerk’s Office.

WASHTENAW COUNTY CLEAN UP DAY     Washtenaw County is hosting a materials collection day on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 9 AM to 1 PM at Eastern Michigan University parking lot across from Rynearson Stadium, 799 N. Hewit, Ypsilanti.  Acceptable items include appliances, furniture, mattresses, electronics, scrap metal, tires and household hazardous waste.  It does not include normal recyclables such as paper, plastic and cardboard, and is not for household trash.  A $15 voluntary donation is suggested, and some items have an additional small charge.  For more information go to washtenaw.org/cleanup.
