SECURITY COMMITTEE     In April 2019 the BHV Security Committee hosted a Community Meeting featuring two Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Deputies, who gave a presentation on security issues and answered questions from the 30 residents in attendance.  The summary report of the meeting was published in the July 2019 Barton Bulletin (posted on the BHV website).  The Security Committee is willing to host another similar meeting if there is community interest.  Please contact the BHV Clerk’s office if you would attend a public meeting on security issues.

WATER COMMITTEE     Residents are reminded that the new water rates are now applicable, so water use will now cost four times more than in previous years.  Water conservation is essential for protecting water resources, and for maintain healthy landscapes.  For tips on water conservation, see the June 2019 Barton Bulletin posted on the BHV website, visit the Huron River Watershed Council website at hrwc.org, or the Washtenaw County website at washtenaw.org/154/Water-Resources.

MASTER RAIN GARDENER     Washtenaw County is offering their Master Rain Gardener online course for free this summer.  Check it out at Washtenaw.org/647/Rain-Gardens.  A Rain Garden is a shallow depression in a yard, planted with a variety of deep-rooted native flowers, shrubs and grasses that “don’t mind getting their feet wet.”  The garden is designed to collect and hold rainwater from downspouts, driveways, and sidewalks for a short time, allowing the water to slowly seep back into the ground.  When planted with the right types of plants, rain gardens also attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
