HALLOWEEN     The Recreation Committee is planning a Halloween event for Friday, October 30 from 4:30-6:30 PM.  For more information and to volunteer to help and/or sign up to participate, contact the Clerk’s office  ASAP.

WATER METER READING     BHV staff will be coming to your house (when you’re home) to read your water meter for the annual billing.  If you would prefer not to have them come inside due to COVID, you can take a photo of the dial numbers on your meter and email it to Jan at bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org.  Be sure to put your name/address in the email, and send the email by October 15 to avoid a house visit.  Questions?  Call Jan 734-222-5209.

BHMC ASSESSMENTS     BHMC will be mailing the annual assessment invoices early next week.  If you would prefer to receive your invoice by email rather than US Mail, send Jan an email at contact@thebhmc.org stating your request.  Include your name and address in your message.  The invoice will be sent as a reply to your request email.

VOTE!     There are seven candidates for five seats on the BHV Board of Trustees that will be decided at the November 3, 2020 General Election.  Candidate information was printed in the last Barton Bulletin, which is posted on the BHV website and available from the Clerk’s Office.
Also available at Walter Esch Hall are 2020 Nonpartisan Voter Guides and Ann Arbor School District Guides provided by the League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Area.  The guides can be picked up during office hours (Monday-Thursday 8:30-1:30) in the Esch Hall lobby.  Wear a mask and wave to Jan and Traci through the windows.   The League of Women Voters has more information available at VOTE411.org or by calling 833-868-3311.

For BHV election questions, contact Ann Arbor Township at 734-663-3418; aatwp.org.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER   (Reporting requirements not met for Barton Hills)     Barton Hills Village complies with state standards for drinking water testing.  We are required to report the results of your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis.  Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards.  While we collected our monthly total coliform sample on time, we did not report the results to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) by the May 10, 2020 deadline for the April 1 to April 30, 2020, compliance period.  The results were sent to EGLE by US Postal Service, as we usually do, but were not delivered and were returned to us marked “undeliverable” nearly a month after we mailed them.  This is a reporting violation only—the sample results were negative for bacteria and there was no impact on public health.  We have returned to compliance and are working to make sure this does not happen again.  Please share this information with all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses).  You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.  While there was never any question about the quality of the drinking water, you have a right to know what happened and that we have corrected this situation.  If you have questions or concerns about drinking water, contact Supt. Hnatow at 734-368-7896 or bhvclerk@bartonhillsvillage.org.

FINAL HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION    BHV collects household hazardous waste (fertilizer, cleaning products, paint, etc) on the first Monday trash collection day of each month, April – November, and takes these items directly to the Washtenaw County Home Toxins Collection Center.  The last BHV collection day for 2020 will be Monday, November 2.
Residents can also contact the WC Home Toxins Center (located at 705 N. Zeeb Road (just north of I-94 Zeeb Road exit), Ann Arbor 48103) at 734-222-3950 to learn more about taking items directly there on other days.  There is a list of acceptable/unacceptable items on the County website at ewashtenaw.org (How Do I? >> Dispose >>Home Toxics).
